The
original artwork found on this page
is by John
Svenson, who has lived and painted
in Southeast Alaska for more than two
decades. As a climber and one
of the original Mountain Trip guides,
Svenson is known for his unique translation
of the mountain image through watercolor. He is also making some wild glassworks including his famous 7 Summits Beads, which contain rock fragments from one of the highest peaks on each continent. These beads are true works of art.
"In an artistic sense, painting
and climbing have many similarities
- the primary difference being that
a miscalculation in the mountains
could result in one's death.
In both fields the application of
knowledge and skill is focused to
achieve a precise and successful end."
Having viewed his
climbing adventures as data collecting
processes, John has found that these
excursions are essential to the development
of his artistic expression. Mountain
Trip is honored to feature the artwork
of such a great artist, climber and
friend.
